This city is considered to be “discovered” by a former British Chancellor Lord Brougham during his visit to this small town in 1834. Probably he just got tired of British rainy weather and fascinated at the city’s hot and dry Mediterranean climate full of sunshine. After his visit the city gradually gained its reputation of a health resort and became very popular among the British aristocracy and soon the French establishment followed. Now it is a place where international aristocracy plays golf, enjoys the city’s long clean beaches and the International Film Festival. Have you already guessed which city we are talking about? Yes, it is Cannes, the star of the French Riviera full of movie stars, glitzy Cannes hotels, limousines and crowds of tourists. Many of the high-class de-luxe hotels in Cannes have recently experienced some kind of a “facelift”: they have been renovated and modernized. Visitors are welcomed to relax in a lot of large international hotels in Cannes. Most of 4 and 5-star Cannes hotels can be found right on the beach. You can keep on budget if you decide to stay in a mid-range Cannes hotel somewhere in the heart of the city. Apartments in these Cannes hotels are quite affordable. The city is not famous for its cheap Cannes accommodations, but it is still possible to find some quite cheap hotels in Cannes or budget Cannes hostels. If you are not a movie fan, then try to avoid traveling to Cannes during the world-famous Cannes Film Festival annually held in May as the prices go up for both cheap Cannes hotels and luxury Cannes accommodations.
If you want to see and be seen when in Cannes, then La Croisette is the place for you. This famous boulevard along the sea front is lined with grand Cannes hotels on one side, and wonderful views over the Bay on the other side. You shouldn’t miss Forville Market too. It is a place where local fishermen and farmers offer a broad assortment of products – sea foods, meat cheese, dairy products, flowers and so on. Every Monday Foville Market becomes a flee market. Countless beaches and shops in Cannes will relax and entertain you as well as vivid Cannes nightlife. Enjoy the city!
